Help & Resources for Persons with Disabilities

Roughly one out of every five New Yorkers has a disability that limits his or her participation in daily activities.  In addition to the usual array of financial issues, people with disabilities often face disability-specific expenses and challenges.

These may include incurring higher costs for health care and adaptive equipment, learning about eligibility and filing requirements for applicable disability benefits, and finding suitable accommodations in housing, transportation and education.  People with disabilities are twice as likely to be unemployed as the non-disabled population, and frequently confront obstacles in their efforts to find rewarding work.

In this section of Your Money New York, we have compiled links to information and resources which can help people address the many financial issues involved in living with a disability.  Knowing your rights and taking advantage of the programs available to you can help you achieve financial security, participate actively in your community, and realize your individual potential.
